Tips from Peter De Cruz
Would you have some spare time, Peter has kindly gathered for you a selection of his best tips.
Activities
Short must-do’s (1-2 hrs)
Walk around the old town and go up the towers in Cathédrale Saint-Pierre, you’ll have a great view of the city.
Cost : CHF 7.-
Visiting hours :
MON-SAT 10am to 5.30pm, SUN 12pm to 5.30pm
Walk around the lake and 5 minute boat trip. We have small boats called « mouettes » in Geneva that are included in the public transport ticket and come around every 10 minutes so you never have to wait. On the way back you will be able to walk by the Jet d’eau. Take the boat M2 at Pâquis going to Eaux-vives
Cost : free with public transport ticket
Boat stop : Genève Pâquis
Additional info : https://www.mouettesgenevoises.ch/
This is one of the most iconic places to go in Geneva to enjoy the sun and lovely view of the city and Jet d’eau. If anyone enjoys cold water, there are beautiful areas to go and take a quick dip in the lake (warning very cold). I recommend taking a towel and go to the very end towards the little light house and you will see a beautiful wooden deck to chill out. They also have a cafeteria that offers really nice breakfast, lunch and coffee.
Pro tip : go there at sunrise
Cost : CHF 2.- to enter (cash only)

Walk around the old town of Carouge, you’ll find great small shops, restaurants and cafés around Place du marché. One of the best places to have a cheese fondue is « Au Vieux Carouge » call to book in advance.
Access : 15 minutes tram from the train station with number 18
Half-day (4-5hrs)
Go see the Mont-Blanc, highest mountain in Europe. I recommend renting a car around the train station and head towards « Compagnie du Mont-Blanc » cable car that goes up « Aiguille du midi » at more than 3’800m. The view is breathtaking ! Unfortunately public transport isn’t the best to go to Chamonix but feel welcome to have a look yourselves.
Information regarding price, access, views, etc : https://en.chamonix.com/activities/practical-information-about-the-lifts/aiguille-du-midi-cable-car
Olympic museum in Lausanne is a great half day excursion to get out of Geneva. The museum is super easy to reach by train/public transport.

Favourite restaurants and cafés
Geneva’s a multicultural city so we have many great options from all around the world. Most of the restaurants might be open only during meal times and some of them are pretty full so I recommend calling to book in advance to avoid bad surprises.
- Il Monte Bianco :
- small Italian place that makes the best sandwiches with great fresh products
- Bains des Pâquis :
- cafeteria for breakfast and lunch, only 1 option per day + 1 vegetarian option and a couple of salads so very simple but nice quality and cheap
- Muller’s factory Globus :
- the best crêpes in Geneva ! It’s located on the main floor of Globus mall
- Chez ma cousine :
- really cool place where you will find nice roast chicken and a few salads
- Inglewood :
- great burgers and nice local beers, take tram 15 for 10 minutes to « Unimail »
- Parfums de Beyrouth :
- Lebanese fast food, kebabs, falafel, etc., open until late
- El Catrin :
- very good Mexican food
- Le Dim Sum Gourmand :
- dimsum and noodles
- Auberge de Savièse :
- traditional Swiss and Geneva food
- Soï :
- Thai street food
- Vicolo39 :
- Italian restaurant in Carouge (15-20 minutes away from the station), typical Sicilian pizza
- Little Ethiopia :
- Eritrean/Ethiopian restaurant
- Brasserie Lipp :
- French cuisine
- Boréal coffee :
- very nice coffee with all the milk types and a nice terrace at the back
- Gelateria Fiordilatte :
- gelato place owned by Sicilian family, it doesn’t get much better than that
- Gelatomania :
- really good gelato with local products
- Manora restaurant :
- buffet on top floor of Manor shopping center, food all times from 9am to 6pm
- Marché des Grottes :
- just behind the train station is a place called Les Grottes and they have a really nice market every Thursday from 4pm to 8pm with loads of places to have some drinks and eat something. A Must in my opinion ! All italian restaurants are pretty good in Geneva so can’t go wrong.
- Drinks :
- Le Scandale, Les Brasseurs, Voodoo bar, Volt bar
